Hochjoch-Schruns, Austria Ski Area Planning

Project: Hochjoch-Schruns Ski Area Assessment + Planning
Location: Montafon, Austria
Client: Hochjoch-Schruns
The Montafon is a 39 km long valley in the Austrian State of Vorarlberg. It accommodates the largest ski region of the Vorarlberg with altogether four larger and two smaller skiing areas and offers winter sportsmen 230 kilometres of ski runs. Hochjoch-Schruns is one of the largest resorts in the region with 11 lifts (2 gondola, 7 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts) that offers skiers an incredible 1680 metres (5512 feet) of vertical descent. Hochjoch-Schruns has 14 pistes with a total length of 43 kilometers (27 miles). IAD founding parnter Mike Larson worked with Hochjoch-Shruns management to do a comprehensive ski area assessment of the resort. Through lift and trail capacity analysis, out of base lift capacity studies and overall site review, IAD prepared master plan recommendations for the future of the resort. Additionally, ski and lift connection studies between Hochjoch-Shruns and Silvretta Nova in the neighboring valley were prepared. Many of these recommendations have been completed and plans are currently being finalized for the resort connection studies.
